FINE ARTS CURRICULUM

Fine Arts Departmental Goals:

  1. Recognize the interdependence of the fine arts with other areas of the curriculum.
  2. Develop skills and knowledge that will enable the student to become a consumer, performer, and/or creator of fine arts.
  3. Demonstrate an awareness of methods for viewing, listening, talking, and writing about the fine arts.
  4. Use and relate the fine arts contributions of all cultures past and present, with a vision of the future.

SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICULUM

Social Studies Department Goals

The social studies program will enable students to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of democratic values, social history, common heritage, and cultural diversity in our society.
  2. Develop multicultural, nonsexist, and non-discriminatory beliefs, and attitudes about self and others, situations, and institutions.
  3. Have at their command selected basic facts, concepts and generalizations from the different social studies disciplines.
  4. Become responsible citizens who will participate effectively in local, state, national, and international affairs.
  5. Develop the information retrieval, communications and thinking skills needed to become lifelong learners.

LANGUAGE ARTS CURRICULUM

Language Arts Departmental Goals:

  1. Demonstrates competence in the general skills and strategies for reading literature.
  2. Demonstrates competence in the general skills and strategies for reading information.
  3. Demonstrates competence in using different information sources, including those of a technical nature, to accomplish specific tasks.
  4. Demonstrates competence in applying the reading process to specific types of literary texts.
  5. Demonstrates an understanding of the nature and function of the English language.
  6. Demonstrates familiarity with selected literary works.
  7. Demonstrates competence in the general skills and strategies in the writing process.
  8. Writes with a command of the grammatical and mechanical conventions of composition.
  9. Effectively uses a systematic, problem solving approach for gathering information.
  10. Demonstrates competence in speaking a listening as tools for learning.
  11. Demonstrate language which is nonsexist and reflects respect for diverse individuals and groups.

SCIENCE CURRICULUM

Science Departmental Goals:

  1. To develop students attitudes of curiosity and involvement with phenomena in their natural environment
  2. To develop an appreciation for the contributions of science to daily living.
  3. To develop the value and inclinations toward solving problems in a scientific manner.
  4. To develop those intellectuals processes of inquiry, by which scientific problems and phenomena are explained, predicted and controlled.
  5. To develop knowledge of facts, terminology, concepts, generalizations, and principles that help students confront and interpret their environment.
  6. To develop students' ability to handle, construct, and manipulate materials and equipment in a productive and safe manner.
  7. To develop their ability to measure, organize, and communicate scientific information.
  8. To use language which is nonsexist and reflects respect for diverse individuals and groups.

MATHEMATICS CURRICULUM

Mathematics Departmental Goals:

  1. Develop an appreciation for and understanding of mathematics in everyday situations.
  2. Develop problem-solving skills using critical thinking and utilizing both inductive and deductive reasoning.
  3. Develop personal and career goals by assessing students individual interests.
  4. Become confident in their growing mathematical power to conquer new problem situations in the world around them.
  5. Participate in activities that encourage interest and reaming using mathematical language in oral discussion, writing, listening skills, and observing skills.
  6. Demonstrate their competency though a variety of evaluation techniques.
  7. Use language, which is nonsexist and reflects respect for diverse individuals and groups.

VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL CURRICULUM

Vocational Educational Goals Students Will Be Able To:

  1. Identify the importance of and demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that allow cooperation in personal relationships as well as in the workplace.
  2. Identify career opportunities in vocational fields as well as maintain and develop skills in obtaining and keeping a job.
  3. Develop basic entry-level job competencies along with the ability to articulate these to the post-secondary level.
  4. Develop occupational competencies and skills in related technologies necessary in a changing global society.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to obtain, interpret, assess, analyze and organize needed information
  6. Develop leadership and decision making skills for personal use, use on the job of for entrepreneurial opportunities.
  7. Vocational education is an integral part of a general education.
  8. All students at every level should be provided with a balanced comprehensive program of instruction in vocational areas.
