COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Students will explore the areas of drawing, painting, printmaking, and three‑dimensional expression. Activities are planned to encourage creativity, originality, and self‑expression. The course will help students decide if they wish to continue exploration of the visual arts.
WHAT STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO DO:
Students are expected to:
· Have an interest in and a willingness to explore the various areas of art mentioned above.
· Come prepared to class.
· Be attentive and cooperative in class.

Students will explore the following painting mediums tempera, watercolor, acrylic and oil and produce paintings in each medium. Students will build upon the skills learned in the intro. to art class in the production of their paintings. Activities are planned to encourage creativity, originality and self‑expression in each painting area.

Sculpture and Ceramics
Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite: Introduction to Art
CURRICULUM BENCHMARKS:
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Students will be exploring Ceramics and Sculpture including history, production, and appreciation. Students will be creating personal work as well as building a more in depth knowledge of history and current use of ceramics and sculpture. Students will be working with two types of clay, two firing methods, and three building methods in ceramics. Students will be working with the human figure in sculpture and using materials such as plaster, clay, paper, and foam core board. Students will vocalize how a specific art piece (their own and others) works by using the formal Elements and Principles.
WHAT STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO DO:
Students are expected to:
1.Produce sculptures and ceramic pieces in all mediums.
2.Be willing to use and build on skill learned in previous art courses.
3.Work to the best of their current ability. (get better every day)
4.Complete all assignments.
