Course Planning Handbook

EDUCATIONAL PLANNING

Educational planning is very important part the school experience. We trust that students and parents will take the time and make the effort to carefully examine this booklet and let it act as a guide for course selection.

The contents of this course planner include the graduation requirements, which are established by the Hinton Community Board of Education. It also contains the electives that are offered for the school year. Although junior high classes are not listed in the planner, it is important for those students and parents to realize the importance of the educational planning process.

As students examine the contents of the course-planning handbook, they should discuss with their parents their post‑secondary academic or vocational goals. These future plans should act as a guide to help determine what courses are to be taken and why. The best interests of the student should always be kept in mind. A student should take courses that would be academically challenging for them, but still would fit into their future academic or vocational plans.

An addition that you will see on many of the course outlines is a listing for a prerequisite. The reason that the prerequisite was added and reemphasized is that it can act as a guide to the student to determine if he/she is capable of completing the course. There are also many classes, which will have limitations as to the size of the class or a petition to be accepted to the class. Many classes are extremely popular but due to a variety of restrictions, only one section can be offered. Individual teachers can explain the selection in these individual classes.
