School Physicals

All students who are in grades 7 -12, that are involved in sports, cheerleading, and/or drill team, are required to have a current physical on file with the school nurse.

Dr. Nick Holton will hold a physical clinic on Wednesday, August 23, (11AM to 1PM). The cost will be $20.00 with all proceeds going to the Athletic Department.

Please feel free to call 947-4328 if you have questions or concerns.

If you need a physical form for your own doctor, you can download one from our web site. http://hintonschool.com/PDF/physform.pdf

High School

Registration

By Ms. Sue Martens

Registration for all students will be done by mail this year. High school students wanting a copy of their schedule should stop in the office to pick it up. Our guidance counselor, Mr. Hudek, will be available August 21-23, should any student need assistance in making schedule changes.

Parents and students are reminded that some of the dual credit classes require students to purchase their own books. These classes include Sociology, AP English, Psychology, Auto Mechanics,  and other college courses. Students registered for the fall Psychology class need to make arrangements for their textbook. They may either contact someone from last year’s class or call the office to be put on the order list. The book order will be placed on August 21, so students should not wait until the first day of school to arrange for the book.

Senior Open Campus

By Ms. Sue Martens

The Hinton Community School Board policy allows for open campus for seniors. Under this policy, seniors may leave the building whenever they are not in class. It is hoped that this privilege will help our seniors become better managers of their time before they leave home for college or work. In order to be eligible for open campus, parents must sign a permission slip for their student. The slips will mailed to senior parents prior to the start of school and will need to be turned in to the high school office on or before the first day of school. To maintain eligibility, seniors will be expected to sign in and out of the building each time they leave and return, and to be on time for all classes following an open campus period. Open campus will begin the first day of school for all seniors that have turned in their permission slips. However, ALL seniors are expected to be at the 8:30 assembly on the first day, regardless of their schedule.

Changes in High School Faculty

Ms. Sue Martens

We have four new teachers joining the high school staff this year. Miss Andrea Martinez will be teaching Spanish in grades 7-12. Miss Martinez is a graduate of Northwestern University. She will be replacing Mrs. Hermsen, who retired at the end of the last school  year. Mr. Pete Haefs will be teaching high school social studies and coaching for the Blackhawks. Mr. Haefs is a graduate of Briar Cliff University (and a former Hinton graduate).

25 – 33% Off Sale!

Does that get your attention? Most consumers are looking to save a buck or two, and you can, when you attend any varsity athletic contest at Hinton High School this year. You can purchase discounted punch cards at the school that save adults (post high school age) 25% and students (grades DK-12) 33%. It works like this: adult punch cards are $15 for 5 games, and students are $10 for 5 games. That is $1 off the regular admission price for each game. That saves the adults 25% and the students 33%! We will be selling these cards anytime during the year in the superintendent’s office or at the gate of any athletic contest. This system has been in place for many years, but only a few people take advantage of the savings. We want you to be aware of it, and use it. Get your punch cards, and let your friends know about them, too.

He will be replacing Mr. Terry Dahlquist, who retired at the end of the last school year. Miss Holli Brown will be teaching ninth and tenth grade English. Miss Brown is a graduate of USD and has been teaching at Remsen St. Mary’s. She is replacing Jennifer Holtgrew, who will be teaching in the LeMars public school system next year. Mr. Cale Kramer will be teaching in the high school resource room next year, and coaching for the Blackhawks. Mr. Kramer is a graduate of Wayne State University. He is replacing Will Bauman, who will be teaching in Tripoli next year.
