Competition Season opens for Dance Team

This year the Hinton All-Stars Dance Team has decided to take their squad to the next level. We have decided to go to competitions. The girls performed at Eagle Grove on November 18, and will take their dance to the Iowa State Drill Team Competition in Des Moines on December 2.

The All-Stars have posters of the team for sale to help offset the costs of traveling to these competitions. If you are interested in purchasing a poster, please see a member of the dance team or contact Mrs. Janell Heimgartner.

All-Iowa Dancers

We are excited to announce that we have two dancers who have tried out and made the All-Iowa Dance Team. Leah Albert and Kinsey Bak will be performing during the Girls State Basketball Tournaments. These girls had to try-out with hundreds of girls from all over Iowa. It is an honor to be selected to be a part of All-Iowa. We are proud of Leah and Kinsey! Good job girls!

All-State Musicians Chosen

Cheree Coffman, Alyssa Grigsby, and Rebekah Youtzy have attained the highest individual honor available to Iowa high school musicians by being selected as a member of the 2006 All-State Chorus and Band. Cheree and Rebekah were a part of the 600-voice All-State chorus and Alyssa participated in the 279-piece All-State Band.

The 2006 Festival celebrated the sixty anniversary of this prestigious event. District auditions were held on Saturday, October 21 in Storm Lake. A small percentage of the students who audition are selected for membership in these All-State ensembles. All three Hinton students rehearsed in Ames on Friday and Saturday, November 17 and 18 and the Festival concert was presented on Saturday evening, November 18. Iowa Public Television recorded the concert for broadcast on November 23 at 7:00 PM and Sunday November 26 at 1:30 PM.

This is a high honor for these three girls. The vocal students are under the direction of Mrs. Minda Thompson and the band students are under the direction of Mr. John Price.
