HINTON COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

REGULAR MEETING - MONDAY, OCTOBER 11, 1999

7:00 P.M. - BOARD ROOM

The Board of Directors of the Hinton Community School District met in regular session Monday, October 11, 1999 in the board room. Members Howe, Dittmer, Rodgers, Held and Sohl responded "aye" to the roll call. Superintendent Steen, Principal Hart, Principal Stuerman, Jo Jurgensmeier, Bruce Fey and Julie Johnson were also present.

The Public Hearing was opened to discuss an early start for the 2000-20001 school year.

It was moved by Dittmer to approve the drafting of a letter to the Department of Education requesting an early start/innovative calendar for the 2000-2001 school year. Second was by Sohl and the motion carried unanimously.

President Rodgers declared the Public Hearing closed.

It was moved by Howe to approve the minutes of the September 27 board meeting and October 6, 1999 work session. Second was by Dittmer and the motion carried unanimously.

It was moved by Sohl to approve the list of bills, in the amount of $267,225.34, for payment. Second was by Howe and the motion carried unanimously.

It was moved by Howe to approve the monthly Activity, Lunch, General and Schoolhouse Fund Financial Reports. Second was by Dittmer and the motion carried unanimously.

A motion was made by Howe to approve the Title VI Grant, in the amount of $3,146, for the continuation of the three-year plan for school improvement. Second was by Dittmer and the motion carried unanimously.

Revision of the Hinton School Mission Statement was discussed.

First reading of the series 200 Board Policies was given.

It was moved by Howe to amend the 1999-2000 school calendar as recommended by Superintendent Steen. Second was by Held and the motion carried unanimously. The revisions are as follows:

March 22 - regular school day

April 25 - regular school day

May 18 - regular school day

May 23 - last day of school

Director Dittmer reported on the Hinton School Advisory Committee Meeting on Sept. 27th. Mr. Dittmer stated this first meeting was an organizational meeting with officers being elected. Dan Klimek was elected President and Loren Field as Secretary. The Committee will meet on the fourth Monday of each month from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M.

Superintendent Steen reported on the Fire Marshal's report and the plan of correction being taken.

It was moved by Howe to approve an increase in sub pay for custodians and teachers, in the amounts of $8.00 per hour for custodians and $70.00 per day for teachers. Second was by Held and the motion carried unanimously.

It was moved by Sohl to approve the resignation of Matt Leary, as C Team Girls' Basketball Coach, with the stipulation that a suitable replacement is found. Second was by Dittmer and the motion carried unanimously.

`It was moved by Sohl that the meeting be adjourned. Second was by Dittmer and the motion carried unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 8:05 P.M. and is recorded on Tape #99-26.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the Hinton Community School District will be November 15, 1999 at 7:00 P.M.
