HINTON COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

REGULAR MEETING - MONDAY, JUNE 12, 2000

6:30 A.M. - BOARD ROOM

 

The Board of Directors of the Hinton Community School District met in regular session, Monday, June 12, 2000, at 6:30 a.m. in the board room.  Members Howe, Held, Rodgers, Sohl and Dittmer responded "aye" to the roll call.  Superintendent Steen, Principal Hart, Jo Jurgensmeier, Bruce Fey, and Peg Larsen were also present.

 

It was moved by Dittmer to approve the Board Agenda as published.  Second was by Sohl and the motion carried unanimously.

 

It was moved by Sohl to approve the minutes of the May 15, 2000 board meeting and the May 30, 2000 budget amendment hearing.  Second was by Dittmer and the motion carried unanimously.

 

It was moved by Howe to approve the list of bills, in the amount of $42,735.27, for payment.  Second was by Held and the motion carried unanimously.

 

A motion was made by Howe to approve the monthly Activity. Lunch, General and Schoolhouse Fund Financial Reports.  Second was by Dittmer and the motion carried unanimously.

 

After a brief discussion of a facilities committee it was determined to hold a special board work-session on Wednesday, June 28th at 6:30 a.m. to discuss the forming and use of this committee.

 

It was moved by Held to approve the resignation of Travis DeWalt, effective immediately and Dick Spies, effective August 15, 2000.  Second was by Howe and the motion carried unanimously,

 

A motion was made by Dittmer to approve a contract for Minda Thompson, as vocal music instructor, for school year 2000-2001.  Second was by Sohl and the motion carried unanimously.

 

It was moved by Sohl to approve the issuing of a contract to Trisha Gambaiana, as high school English teacher for school year 2000-2001.  Second was by Dittmer and the motion carried unanimously.

 

In accordance with Superintendent Steen's recommendation a motion was made by Dittmer to approve the purchasing of science and music textbooks, workbooks, and resource materials, with an approximate cost of $29,000.  Second was by Held and the motion carried unanimously.

 

A motion was made by Held to approve the K-6 Student Handbook, 7-12 Student Handbook, and the Teacher Handbook for the 2000-2001 school year, as submitted. Second was by Dittmer and the motion carried unanimously.

 

It was moved by Howe to approve the following fees for the 2000-2001 school year:

 

Activity Fees (including Drill Team) - $10.00

 

Driver's Education - $150.00

 

Rental of school owned band instruments - $40.00

 

Book Rent - $30.00

 

Lunch Fees:  K-6 -- $1.45,  7-12 -- $1.50, Adults --$2.10

                     All breakfast --$1.00, Ala Carte -- $.85

 

Second was by Dittmer and the vote was:

 

                      Howe    -   aye           Dittmer  -  aye          Rodgers  -  aye

                      Held     -   aye            Sohl     -   nay

 

Motion carried.

 

It was moved by Held to approve Policy 302.5E1 (Superintendent Evaluation Form) and 303.6E1 (Principal Evaluation Form).  Second was by Sohl and the motion carried unanimously.

 

It was moved by Sohl to approve the First Reading of Board Policies 500-502.10R1.  Second was by Howe and the motion carried unanimously.

 

It was moved by Sohl to approve the Emergency Plan, with the recommended changes.  Second was by Dittmer and the motion carried unanimously.

 

A motion was made by Howe to approve the hiring of a teacher aide/part-time teacher.  This person will help with the 60+ students in7th grade along with other areas where needed.  Second was by Dittmer and the motion carried unanimously.

 

A motion was made by Dittmer to adjourn the meeting.  Second was by Held and the motion carried unanimously.  The meeting adjourned at 7:35 a.m. and is recorded on Tape #00-8.

 

The next meeting will be the special board work-session, June 28th @ 6:30 am.

 

The next Regular Meeting of the Hinton Community School District will be July 10, 2000 at 6:30 a.m.
