Thank You!

I want to thank the parents and patrons of the Hinton Community School District for your warm welcome and gratifying support of your school and my tenure as acting superintendent.  It has been my privilege to extend my career in Hinton, even though unexpected.  Perhaps the new school will be seen as the signal achievement of my tenure, but I prefer to think of our student achievement and educational programming, and the relationship I’ve built with our faculty, staff and administrative team, as well as with our board of directors, as being even more important.  Obviously, we’ve also had to navigate some challenging fiscal times with a 12.5% net reduction in state funding the first year, an “unfunded increase” in allowable growth funding this year,  and an unresolved support from the Iowa General Assembly next year.  We’ve made it through these times and with a broad sense of commitment have moved forward.

I have a great love and respect for this place and our students, and a real fondness for those with whom I have been privileged to work.  I wish Pete Stuerman and the district all the best in the future.

Thank you and may your future together be as promising as your past is rich. I’ll see you at the dedication of a new Pre-K-3 elementary school on September 25th.

Lunch Prices – 2011-2012

In third Lunch prices will rise by 10 cents per meal for students and by 15 cents per meal for adults next year, as necessitated by Iowa guidelines emanating from the U. S. Department of Agriculture. Meal pricing for lunches next year will therefore be $1.90 for grades 7-12 and $1.85 for lower than 7th grade.  Adult lunches will be $3.00.  Breakfasts will remain at $1.25 for all students.

Taste of Hinton

The Hinton Community School District Foundation would like to thank all Taste of Hinton - Pictureattending our first annual “Taste of Hinton” on April 2nd at Deer Run Golf Course.

Thanks to your generosity, proceeds from the ticket sales to the event as well as the silent auction of many wonderful items exceeded $3,000.  These funds will further the Foundation’s established goals of updating/maintaining our libraries and playgrounds as well as making current technology accessible to the students in our schools.


During this event, the Hinton Community School District Foundation announced the sale of tiles that will grace the entry wall of our new elementary school.  Sale of the tiles will continue throughout the summer.  A minimum of $250 is required to acquire a tile.  A variety of sizes and colors are available, with pricing set at:


                6” x 6”                    $   250

                6” x 12”                        500

                12” x 12”                  1,000

                12” x 24”                 2,000

                18” x 18”                 3,000

                24” x 24”                 4,000

                24” x 36”                 5,000


Custom logos are included on donations of $2,000 or greater.  A Blackhawk logo can be added to tiles for an additional $25.

A sample of our vision of the donor wall, honoring our donors in our elementary school, can be found on display across from the school’s award case located by the High School office.

We would also like to pay special tribute to Pinnacle Bank for their generous donation of $10,000 to the Hinton Community School District Foundation!  Their generosity is helping the Foundation to achieve its goals and its mission “to generate resources to provide the students of Hinton Community School with the best opportunities for learning and becoming successful adults.
