Discovergarten and Kindergarten Registration for
Registration has begun at Hinton School for the 2011-2012
Discovergarten and Kindergarten classes.
Due to the opening of a new building in the fall of 2011, we are
foregoing the traditional Roundup process used in the past. The administrative team, along with the
early childhood staff will hold a parent registration and information meeting
on March 7th, 2011 at 6:30 p.m.
During the meeting parents will have the opportunity to learn about the
Discovergarten and Kindergarten programs, meet the early childhood staff and
have any questions answered. Parents
will also be filling out all the necessary registration forms to attend
school in the fall. Parents should register their child in advance by calling
the school (947-4428) with this initial information: the child’s full name,
address, phone number, and birth date.
Discovergarten is Hinton Community School’s transitional
kindergarten program. Discovergarten program provides children with an extra
year in which to grow socially, cognitively, and physically. The program is open to all students who
have turned five by September 15, 2011.
The program has no charge and follows the school calendar.
If your child is 5
years of age on or before September 15, 2011, please call Janet at 947-4428.

In January, twenty artworks from Hinton’s elementary
students were submitted to be judged. The second graders included: Taylor
Reuter, Desi Riley, Aislynn Haefs, Robbie Batcheller, and Morgan Montgomery.
The third graders were: Alka Eilades, Kyle Brighton, Jaden Jenkins, Luke
Derochie, and Kara Pridie. The fourth grade artists included: Jillian
Hicklin, Turner Schmitt, Kiana Smutzler, Sam Vaught, and Megan Montgomery.
Finally, the fifth grade was represented by: Jacob Vondrak, Jacob Kirwin,
Madison Kovarna, Samantha Kallsen, and Morgan Schoenrock.
Many teachers from different schools submitted artwork for
this show. There were 469 pieces by different elementary students that were
judged. Jenny Bye from the Sioux City Art Center said, “This year was a tough
competition and the bar was set high.” They only had room for 91 works in the
show, and 4 of those spots will go to Hinton students! Fourth graders Jillian
Hicklin and Turner Schmidt had their Egyptian scarabs selected. The judges
also picked two fifth grade fans created by Jacob Kirwin and Madison Kovarna.
