Elementary Holiday Concert December 15th

The Holiday Concert for Preschool through Grade 3 will be held on December 15th   at the elementary school.  In order to accommodate all our groups, we will follow a different format this year.  The concert times will be:

·         6:00 to 6:30 – PreK/Discovergarten

·         6:45 to 7:15 – Kindergarten /1st

·         7:30 to 8:00 – 2nd/3rd

Students will meet in their classrooms 15 minutes prior to their scheduled time slot.  There will be no “grand finale”.  Parents will be free to attend their child’s performance-come and go, then join us in the commons for cookies, browse the displays of art projects, or purchase a gift basket from the Relay for Life Team.

Standardized Testing In November

Hinton students in grades three through eleven will take the Iowa Assessments in the morning hours during the week of November 7-11. The Iowa Assessments, formerly called the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills and the Iowa Tests of Educational Development, help teachers and parents assess a student's annual growth in a number of skill areas and they provide an indication of how a student's performance compares to other students in Iowa and in the nation. Since the adoption of No Child Left Behind legislation, student scores on these tests have been used to assess the effectiveness of local school programs against a high national standard of performance. Parents are asked to take special care to see that their children get a good night's rest and a nourishing breakfast on the mornings of the tests. Parents with questions about the Iowa Tests are welcome to call Mrs.Daniels, D-6 School Counselor, at 947-4327 or Mrs. Clausen, 7-12 School Counselor, at 947-4328.

Dear Edwina To Be Performed

Thirty students from Hinton’s high school vocal music department are hard at work practicing the fall musical, “Dear Edwina.”  This musical features Edwina Spoonapple (Emily Culver) who would do just about anything to be a part of the Kalamazoo Advice-a-palooza Festival.  When a talent scout comes to her hometown of Paw Paw, Michigan, she trots out her musical advice giving shows live from the family garage in hopes of finding her place in the spotlight.  She is assisted by her siblings and several friends in the neighborhood.  Together they tackle the world’s problems in song tackling almost everything from birthday party etiquette to the proper way of setting a table.  This G-rated musical will appeal to everyone from children through adults.

The musical will be held on Friday, November 4, and Saturday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m. (on both nights).  Reserved seats (chairs on floor-all ages) will be available for $5.00.  Please see Mrs. Thompson or call the high school office (947-4328) starting on Monday, October 31.  Reserved tickets can be picked up the night of the show.  Bleacher seats are available at a price of $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for children.  Athletic passes will not be honored for admission.  The production is directed by Mrs. Minda Thompson and Mr. Terry Dahlquist.  We hope to see you there!
