Modern Woodmen of America Speech Contest 2017
On March 14th, ten 8th grade students presented to parents, family, friends, and staff their Modern Woodmen of America speech. The contest was started over 60 years ago as a way to encourage young students to become more active in their community and to have an opportunity to improve their verbal communication skills.
The students gathered at the Hinton School library at 6:30 to present their speech on “What does it mean to be a Hero?” The students were required to speak for a minimum of 3 minutes, yet no longer than 5 minutes.

National History Day - TAG
This year, the 8th grade TAG students completed a research project for the National History Day Competition. National History Day projects teach students to conduct in-depth research; use primary and secondary sources; read a variety of texts; analyze and synthesize information and write and present historical content.
Students pick a topic that relates to the annual theme. This year’s theme was, “Taking a Stand in History”. The students participated in the individual exhibit category. The competition was held Friday, March 31st at the Northwest AEA.

Elementary Track Day
The elementary track meet will be held on May 24. The TK, K, and 1st, and 2nd grade students will participate in the morning (8:45-11:30) and the 3rd – 6th grade students will participate in the afternoon (12:00-2:45). Mr. Jindra will send home more details as the day draws nearer.
Last Day Of School
The last day of school for students will be on Thursday, May 25th and will be a 2 hour early out.
